Friendly Fire - Jan. 14 Field Layout
Finally got around to sketching this up from our practice at Friendly Fire. First off, sorry for the pic for being tilted sideways. I don’t have a scanner so I had to resort to my digital camera. Secondly, the big thing in the center is a medium X, it has a closed triangular base, but the rest is just like any other X bunker. And finally, the drawing actually needs to be a bit elongated, but it’s close enough I’d say. For a larger image, click here.

I’ve labeled each bunker with a letter.
A - Lay down
B - Stand up
C - Brick
D - Half moon
E - Small can (layind down)
F - Tombstone
Obviously, the back bunkers were usually the first ones to be taken. Back center, was nearly a fortress. There’s no way you can pinch anybody out, so you’re basically relying on your gunfighting skills there. If you looked straight down the field from the back standup’s sides, you could barely just see your mirror, which left little room for sloppy playing.
Both backs offered a great range of the field. It was back left’s responsibility to guard the snake, and without it, the other team could easily move into the 50 tombstone. Back right could keep people from advancing on the outside of the laydowns, which would completely tie down that side of the field (going on the inside of the laydowns would be suicide).
The 30 standup was key in locking down the right side of the field. Nothing was going to shoot you out form behind, and you could cover all the way to the first lay down past the dorito.
The center 30 brick was worthless; too easy to get pinched, not worth the risk getting there.
The snake thing was pretty hard to play - easy to get to, but hard to play. Once behind the back left standup, all you needed was to stay low and nothing would reach you. The main thing keeping it from being easy was 30 and back standups. The snake was so low that they practically looked right down into it. However, once the snake side was cleared, the snake was the way to go to clear the right side. I was able to do this a time or two, and it worked great.
The right side was definitely the strong side. It was really only side with any prospect of advancing. If you made it to the dorito, you were in good shape.
Well that’s the basics of it anyways. I hope I’ll be able to get some video up soon!
