Xball v2.8 - a homemade game of paintball

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

For those of you that know the basics of professional paintball, you might find this game to be rather addicting. It’s a homemade game designed on Game Maker. I’ve personally used this program and I know just how hard it is to get a game to work, and this one simply amazes me. It includes…

-20 marker choices
-3 types of hoppers
-3 tank sizes
-12, 14, and 16 inch barrel choices
- a dozen professional teams such as Dynasty, XSV, RL, etc.
-and finally, 9 different fields

To download, visit the Agg Sauce website, scroll down to the “Games section, and click on “Xball V2.8

Here’s an in game screenshot, check out that action!

In game screenshot!

There’s been a lot of work put into this, and it’s a great way to pass a lazy afternoon. Okay, so it’s not quite up to the level of Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball for PS2 and Xbox, but for a three second download I don’t think I can complain.

Redz International Service - A+

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Redz International Logo

My order from Redz International arrived last night. I’m still surprised that they could get a shipment off in three days (I ordered Sunday night), and everything seems to be in great condition. Only thing is, I didn’t get my dang lanyard that came with the deal! Oh well, they said packages went according to stock. But now I’ve got plenty of stickers and a keychain to make up for it! I’m definitely coming back for some pads I think, so I’ll give them an A+ on the service so far.

The Mighty Ball TM

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

There is a new reusable paintball out on the market called the Mighty Ball. It’s a reball clone, just a different price. Here’s the description..

• 0.68 caliber, fits all paintball markers;
• no oil, no lubrication needed, just load and shoot;
• similar weight to real paintball, so it will shoot straight;
• reusable and easy to clean, save you big money;
• Great for entertaining and practice as well as target shooting.

The Mighty Paintball!

Their Price for Mighty Ball:
100 count – $24.98
200 count - $46.98

The Basic Reball Price:
140 pod count – $49.99
500 count - $149.99

Basically, they’re the same product only different in cost. If you don’t have an indoor course in your basement, then there’s really no need to buy them, because they’re mainly for the indoor field owners. Reball does so much for them to cut cost and time. No more cleaning bunkers, no messy rental guns and goggles. No need for a sewer system under the floor of the field. The only thing they have to worry about it sweeping them up and washing them off.

Invert Mini Test Fire

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Okay, just to see a visual comparison here’s a clip of the Invert Mini.

After seeing the two, I think I like the PMR better. Not just because it really rips, but I think it just looks better in my opinion. It seems like the Invert would just be so awkward to balance and all, considering it’s nothing more than a tube with some grips hanging from it. I hope PMR kills the invert in sales, but that’s just me.

My god, check out this clip of the PMR. It’s dry firing at 26BPS on ramp. Niiiiiice.

Another Speed Feed Knock Off

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Found another knock off…looks sketchy if you ask me. Guess you’d have to order one to find out for sure, but it seems like it wouldn’t keep the balls in. That’s just my take on it. Ahem…

Feed Fast

“Feed Fast™ is an innovative new product for rapidly filling hoppers. The unique design of the Feed Fast™ allows you to empty any standard pod directly into the hopper in record time. The replaceable foam flapper allows paintballs to fall from the pod – right into the hopper – so there’s no need to flip open the hopper lid for every reload. The replaceable foam flappers are available in a variety colors to match any team.

The Feed Fast™ is brought to you by combined design efforts between PBMatrix.com and JCS Jet City Specialties®. It is manufactured by Blackpoint Engineering and MADE IN THE USA!

Precision 7-cut flappers are made from high quality foam stock - Colors Too!!!

Well, enough said. I don’t use speed feeds, but the original looks way better in my opion. Alot better.

Dangerous Power Fusion Paintball Marker

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

The DP Fusion is one of the most incredible, and unknown, markers out today. It’s operating system is similar to that of a Wrath, BKO’s, the AR-1, and several other markers. Using the basic FASOR (Forward Air Spring Operated Return) design, the DP Fusion’s is one of the first to be designed from the ground up. Because of this, the DP Fusion far outpaces all of the guns I listed previously. It’s extremely consistent, efficient, and has very little kick. (Think less than high-end Timmy’s)

The operating system is designed to be very lightweight, and when I felt the gun myself, I was truly amazed. The only part that felt heavy when we took it apart was the pair of grip panels. The gun is amazingly balanced and felt a ton more comfortable with my 48/3000 and Evlution2 on it than my Ion does.

It has an optical trigger, which felt awkward at first, but after some easy adjustments, was pretty incredible. The board is simple to adjust, although it is in itself very simple. 15/20 BPS Semi, and 15/20 BPS PSP Ramp are the four modes available on the stock board. It also has breakbeam eyes, a step up from most FASORs, as well as SP markers.

To be exceedingly blunt, the DP Fusion is NOT designed to be a back up gun. It can and will compete with many high-end guns, especially the top ‘06 ones.

Silver Spur Splat - Our Local Field

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

I’m beginning to realize just how nice our local field (Silver Spur Splat) really is. I’ve seen so many people that pay $20.00 field fees, $10 for all day air, and $45.00 for a half case of paint ($65.00 for a case). After playing at our local field, and if I were to go to some field that charges prices like that, there’s a good chance that I’d just fall over dead.

I’ve also heard a great deal about stuck up field employees, but not at Silver Spur. If those aren’t the greatest guys to be around, I really don’t know what it would take to beat them. Most of the reffing is done by members of local teams just to help out, and they’re always encouraging new players. Pops, the owner, is definitely one cool dude. He’s a Nam vet, so he naturally fills the requirements of any paintballer out there. You should watch them take apart guns. Now that’s a site.

Right now they have two speedball fields built from crates, spools, and some other materials. They have one hyper-pipe (my personal favorite) field. Their newest edition is an indoor SupAir field that’s not exactly the biggest, but it’s definitely an awesome place to play. And in addition to speedball courses, they have a great fort field set up with the fort being at the top of a hill and large concrete sewer pipes, and a double ring of dirt redoubts in the attackers’ way. The town is also a popular field, and then there’s a woods field, but I’ve never played on that.

They have great prices to top things off. I can play almost all day with $50.00.

Field Fee - $5 (The field fee is dropped if you buy 500 paintballs, which I almost always take advantage of)
All day air – $5
A case of paint - $45.00-$55.00 (depending on brand)

Yeah, Silver Spur is definitely one awesome place to be, no matter who you are. I’m hoping that they put in another air field, because I know they have room for one. I’m just trying to figure out what they are waiting on! So if you’re ever in the South-Western Indiana area, be sure to stop by and pay them a visit. It will leave you wanting to come back for more.

V-Force Profilers

Monday, November 13th, 2006

V-Force Profiler

V-Force Profilers are commonly held as one of the premier paintball masks on the market today. V-Force exclusively produces paintball masks and, as such, is one of the most prominent companies in the mask market.

The Profiler Specs include:

Optical Superiority: Never miss a shot. [I don't know about never missing a shot, but the only part of the mask that you can really notice at all while you wear it is the bridge of the nose.]

Ultra low profile enables super tight play. [It does have an extremely small profile compared to many other masks.]

Thermo-Cured Anti-Fog endures, game after game. [That it does, I've taken my mask out in some optimal fogging conditions and it has not at all.]

ProGrille soft center face = high bounce-count, no jaw bone. [Sure. Maybe if someone is shooting at 100 FPS from a hundred yards. No company can produce a mask that's got a true 'high-bounce count', so truely Profilers are as good as any in this department, and possibly a little bit better than some hard plastic masks.]

World’s Fastest Mask: Quick-Change Lens speed for super-fast service during time outs. [Very true, very easy to switch lenses and straps.]

They are super comfy. I think I could be convinced fairly easily to sleep in them if there was something in it for me.

Also, the price is very right. They are the cheapest of the professional level masks, by a good $20-$30. So if you’re looking to save a little, but still get quality, these are a good start.

JT Tactical Markers- The Tac-5

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Ouch. What a place to be for JT Tactical right now. Their masks are looking sharp, hundreds of teams play wearing their jerseys and pants (I even wear a JT Jersey), and yet their latest gun has been labeled as “a Tippmann rip-off”, “a complete joke”, and “not worth the metal it’s made out of” by people who have purchased and used the marker.

The JT Tac-5. Crap? Or just misunderstood? OR CRAP.

In essence, JT Tactical (an offshoot of JT USA) tried to make something that looked fancy for all those beginner rec players (and their parents) who don’t know any better and just want a starting gun. The gun is more than worthless, and if you’d like proof, take a look around the JT Forums on PBNation. I’ve never shot one, and I really don’t plan to. (Although my opinion was sealed when I saw the ridiculous tactical handle accessory.)

But what bothers me the most isn’t the fact that JT produced a crappy gun. It’s the fact that they don’t care. They aren’t trying to improve the design. They aren’t offering customer service. Besides their markers they have an outstanding reputation, so why aren’t they at least putting some sort of interest into the gun market, if only just to make sure that their reputation doesn’t suffer anywhere else?

Greg Hastings’ Tournament Paintball

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball

This is the first game of the premier paintball video game series under the GHTP name.

To be completely honest, I didn’t think it would be as good as it was. Featuring over 15 tournaments and about 100 different fields, the game brings plenty of variety to the whole experience. It does a fairly decent job of capturing the essence of paintball in a game, without too much unrealness snuck in. (Although playing against Joy Division might seem like quite a bit to some…)

The only complaints I have are these:

Firstly, no single console multiplayer (a complaint that will be addressed and fixed in the second installment of the series).

And secondly, it was too damn short! I would have loved to have a slower progressing game that took a bit longer to complete with a more rewarding system of leveling up skill sets and the like.

Beside those two slight downfalls the rest of the game absolutely shines, making the time in between actually being out there on the field a lot more bearable.
