Peace!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Well, due to a whole lot of circumstances, I’m leaving 451 Press.

That means this blog is toast, and if you’ve been checking for updates I apologize. I know I didn’t do my best this last month, but I hope that those of you who have read this blog have at least left knowing that you knew a lot more about paintball than the idiots who write this.

And I want you to know, it’s not you, it’s me. There are just certain things that I have to deal with on my own, and I didn’t want you to get hurt…

I… uh.

Hmm, lost my train of thought. Mostly this is all due to me graduating high school and moving on to college, where I doubt I’ll have time for blogging between my studying, partying, and girls. I wish you all the best in your paintball endeavors, and hopefully I’ll see you on the field someday.

PBJ Updates

PBJ_HQ_report.jpg

Here are some of the things that have been going on at and around Paintball Journal HQ.

A Comment on Comments

First of all, thanks for being patient with posting comments on this site. I know the askimet spam filter has been under performing miserably as of late, but once I figured out that comments weren’t getting through, I started checking the filter daily. So if you post a comment, don’t worry if it doesn’t show up immediately. However, if it’s something you’d really like to talk about, don’t hesitate to hit the “Contact Me” button in the left hand column.

451 Downsizes

In other news, this network is in the process of some pretty major reforms. Now, this blog’s safe, so fear ye not, but expect some major changes around here. I may also be taking on some other blogs as well, but this one will always be my precious. My preeecciousss…ss…ss…..

Tournament Time

I know what a lot of you are thinking. You’re thinking “Hey, Dana, how can we trust the information we get from a kid who probably doesn’t even play paintball that much?” Well, that’s something I’m hoping to remedy somewhat in the near future.

In accordance with such bold statements, I’ve also gone and bought a Halo B that matches my trigger quite nicely, and should help my consistency.

IMG_1317resize.jpg

I’ll probably be playing in Splatz’s next tournament, on February 16th. It’s a charity tournament that will benefit the local food bank. I’m pretty stoked about that whole thing.

That’s all for tonight, I’ve got a paper to write about Barack Obama or something. I’ll see you tomorrow.

Blogroll and Sidebar Updates

Friday, August 24th, 2007

It’s that time of year again, the sidebar on this blog is getting updated. That means I’ve now got direct control of some of the things happening there, including the blogroll. If you’d like to get your site added, talk to me and we can work something out.

All of the sites I’ve added there (not the sponsored links or paid for links of which I have no control) have been added because I like the sites, not because they’ve been paid for or anything. I just want to let you know that I genuinely recommend all of the sites there, because of my personal experience on those sites and with the people who run them.

Paintball USA - Stealing From Me

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Paintball USA is stealing my stuff! And, I’m pretty sure they’re stealing from other sources as well. It’s not just an aggregator, because they definitely don’t link here on purpose. Just a warning, if you’re seeing my stuff elsewhere on the web that isn’t being posted by me.

Team Design

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

It’s that time of the year again. We’re re-designing our team from the ground up. That means name, jerseys, logos, sponsors, and more.

Read, Comment, Win ($300)!

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

That is correct. Simply by posting non-spam comments on my (and any other 451 Press Network) blog you will be entered in a contest where you could win a couple hundred bucks.

Now I know all you paintballers need mad cash to sustain your habits. So go ahead, and let me know what you think about any one of my posts or random pictures or whatever. Your feedback could be worth come sweet money. And I’ll appreciate it no matter why you do it.

Lazy Days of Summer

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I can sometimes feel the distant strains of Autumn on the wind, and am looking forward to playing a lot more in the coming months than I have all summer.

I missed an awesome practice last weekend, because my brother and I bought an Xbox 360. Ah, well. Can’t make to ‘em all. But it would’ve been great - 07 Xball Field set up half an hour away.

Anyway, I spent 4 weeks in a cornfield, I need some time to rest, thus the crappy post tonight.

I’m staying in shape with soccer (twice a day now, oh joy…), and will hopefully be bringing you the excitement from the field very soon.

13 Part Paintball Series Coming To FSN This Fall

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Paintball may just be getting the break it needs in the media, and it is coming to Fox Sports Net this fall. A thirteen part series will begin on October 2nd at 4:30pm, and air every Tuesday until its completion in late December. Thanks to the efforts of Shawn Walker, NPPL President, paintball may just get an entire new image in the public, hopefully changing some minds and bringing new people into the sport.

FSN

The 13-part docu-drama series will be showcasing the lives, personalities and culture of the sport of paintball. The viewer will see the players as people before they see them as athletes. By using a wide spectrum of features, the show will breakdown the paintball industry with segments on globalization, Hollywood appeal, as well as the business of paintball and technology.

This right here is exactly what we like to see. The promotion of paintball in a healthy, positive image is what we’re all about here at PBJ, and we hope to take it even further by not only preaching it, but practicing it at the field or wherever we may be. Not only will this show be enlightening to the public that views it, but also to experienced players as well. For as much as I’ve played in the past, I still know little of the true people that become these killing machines on the field. Hopefully this show will give us more of an in depth look into these players’ lives as well as show the technology and the skill that it takes to make and play paintball on a professional level.

I’m pumped up about it; it really sounds that good. Don’t forget.

Tuesdays from October 2nd, 2007 – December 25, 2007 at 4:30 PM in all time zones.

Dream Vacation For ‘Ballers

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

A Paintballer’s Dream Vacation

Looks like a party!

Carnival Cruise Lines is offering a four night Bahaman cruise to paintball enthusiasts where they will be treated to onboard clinics hosted by pros such as Ollie Lang, Matty Marshall, Nicky Cuba, Bea Youngs, and Lisa Harvey. The clinics, however, are limited due to the fact that no guns or paintball equipment will be allowed onboard. Still, this is something that I would totally be on if I was given the chance (money/time) to go! I wouldn’t pass up anything like this, ever!

And if reading this gets you fired up, don’t grab your shades and sandals just yet! Unfortunately, the full payment must have been completed by June 1st of this year. Don’t let that get you bummed though, because there is always next summer as this is going to be an annual event. The pricing doesn’t seem all that bad either - it covers food, entertainment, private party with the Pros, as well as clinic costs and contest drawings.

“Availability is limited on the ship, as the dates are quickly approaching. You
may make payments as often as you need to, as long as payment in full has been
received by June 1, 2007.

$499.00 - inside cabin, per person, double occupancy
$525.00 - oceanview cabin, per person, double occupancy“

I’d so be there if I only had the opportunity. But seriously, if you really do have this opportunity, take it next time it comes around in ‘08.

PSP Chicago Results

Monday, June 25th, 2007

After several days of intense paintball at PSP ChiTown, the final standings for the NXL are as follows.

Event Standings

01st- X-factor
02nd- Ironmen
03rd - Dynasty
04th - Americans
05th - Strange
06th - Aftershock
07th - Infamous
08th - Naughty Dogs
09th - Raiders
10th - Legion
11th - Hurricanes
12th - Trauma
13th - Legacy
14th - Ultimate
15th - LTZ
16th – XSV

Take special note of XSV in dead last (XSV Damage as they are officially known as now). I never really did like them, but it’s a real shame to see them in this position. On the other hand, however, I’m really pumped to see teams like X-Factor and Ironmen at the top. I’m a big fan of both teams, because they seem very professional about the sport and definitely mix it up a bit with the old powerhouses. Dynasty taking third is somewhat of a surprise, although I firmly believe the competition is a lot stiffer these days, but still not a bad finish at all.

If you’re interested in video footage from the final match between X-factor and Ironmen you can find it here on PBStar. They also have the videos for Legacy vs. Infamous and Aftershock vs. Russians. The last minute in the X-factor/Ironmen is the best footage of all as they get the teams in their huddles – Lang is so damn inspirational.

Know any local teams that might have entered? You can check the full roster of paid entries here.

The Layout

Gridded

In the Open, D2, and D3 Division finishes, the results are…

Open

First – Aftermath
Second – Static
Third – Team Impact
Fourth – Avalanche X
Last (Eleventh) – Palm Beach Vipers

Division II

First – Drama Paintball
Second - VICIOUS
Third – TX Justice League
Fourth – TEAM NASTY
Last (38) – FEMMES FATALES

Division III

First – TPA Revolution
Second – DBS Kidz
Third – Speedin Dirty
Fourth – Zero Tolerance
Last (54) – Detroit Hate

You can find the rest of the scores in detail, here.

It also appears that the Draxxus field had some bad experiences with the refs there. They were supposedly lazy and “more active between games” than during them, but I wouldn’t know anything about these kind of things because I can’t even get to these events! I really, really hope this wasn’t anybody we know, and I really, really hope that FFP brings home that field, even if it will be exclusive.

Canadian Baller to Produce TV Series and DVD

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

In August of 07, Canadian Baller plans to debut their entire season of filming on TV. They’re a group of paintball maniacs that have been following Canadian teams and top players to all of the major events, filming them in High Def and 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround. You may not be able to get this kind of quality on TV, so be sure to look for the DVD that will be released shortly after! I can already tell just by looking at their website that they know what they’re doing.

Canadian Baller Homepage

They have also released two trailers, but I can’t seem to get them to work; it warns that the latest Quicktime is needed.

Trailer 2

I’ll get these to work eventually!

Friendly Fire Paintball Gets a New Field

Monday, June 18th, 2007

The owners of Friendly Fire Paintball recently won a brand new field at the last D-Day event in Oklahoma. It was a field owner’s contest which they won, and now they don’t have to actually buy any mini Xs, a snake, Aztecs, or lane blockers – they came with the deal! Yesterday was their opening celebration, and although I wasn’t able to be there, I heard it was an awesome time.

JFK, the field’s home team and core, had most of their team out there playing and discussing where they want to be in the future. They will finish up this season with Omaha and World Cup. Next year they are shooting for the very top of the division, and I believe they have everything it takes to do it.

Anyways, here’s a field pics I bummed off some people.

Not the greatest quality

Another shot

FFP will be sitting out at Chicago in order to ref the games. In return, they will come home with a brand new, slightly dirtied 2007 XBall field. The deal is going down as far as I know, but the field will be pretty exclusive to JFK, and maybe any other Pro teams that are looking to practice for any upcoming events (it will be set to the exact layout of any events). That is sick.

Paintball Journal’s New Banner!

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Evan has created quite the fancy banner to put at the top of our site. We’re rather excited about it, as it the entirety of the 451 Press network. Custom banners are a feature that all of the bloggers have wanted for a rather long time. Comments and praise for Evan’s sharp Photoshopping skills are quite welcome!

I’m Back!

Monday, June 11th, 2007

After some technical difficulties, some vacational difficulties, and some emotional difficulties, I’m back and ready to kick some bloggin’ ass.

I see that Evan has failed to play in my absence, which is a terrible, terrible thing. I also see that it is only with my wonderful leadership that this blog flourishes, and so I shall redouble my efforts and so forth and so forth to make this blog so insanely kick-ass that people will be begging us for blog coverage.

In that spirit, I’ll be playing catch-up a little bit this week, posting news bits that you may have not caught with Evan in charge *glares at Evan*. I’ll also be posting new stuff as well, probably doing two posts a day. So try to keep up!

BT-4 ERC Giveaway on PBNation

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

You’ve probably seen these posted before, but now it’s time for another one! PBNation is once again handing out another contest, check out the prize.

PBNation

Be the one of the 1st on the planet to get your hands on this brand new marker from BT Paintball. We will giveaway two of the new BT-4 ERC markers, with a retail value of $399.95 each. These guns have not been released yet and the guns that will be given away for the contest will be the very first guns of production.

Take all of the outstanding features found in the ultra-reliable BT-4 combat, add the BT electronic grip frame and the HALO powered BT rip-clip and you get one of the world’s fastest shooting markers. The addition of the BT electronic grip frame brings incredible firing rates. The HALO powered BT rip-clip relies on HALO’s championship proven feeding technology to assure this marker not only cycles at speed but sends rounds downrange without fail.

Check out the BT Paintball web site for more info on their markers and other stuff.

If I could make a guess, it will look something along the lines of the BT-4 Ironhorse.

BT-4 Ironhorse

But there’s always a catch! You must be an Annual Supporting Member to be eligible to win. Here’s the rest of the fine print, read it here on PBNation.
